The workings of a Master Puzzler

“When the Lord puts all the pieces of the time puzzle together, things fall into place before you even know what’s coming.” — Ashley

    First trip to Haiti

Jon’s first trip came on the one-year anniversary of the 2010 earthquake. He served with Global Outreach in Titanyen, outside Port-au-Prince, maintaining facilities and equipment for a ministry that drilled water wells, fed elders, ran a burn clinic and supported local churches and schools. He’d return with them three more times, including riding in the back of a dump truck to collect Agape Flights mail in Port-au-Prince.

    A prayer for flight training

The family began praying for a way to pay for flight training, a prayer that would be answered thirteen years later.

    Meeting Russ & HFAM

On his last trip with Global Outreach, Jon flew to northwest Haiti for a Sunday beach retreat. The pilot was Russ of Hope From Above Ministries, who was about to become director of a small hospital in Bombardopolis.

    A&P license & a double engine swap

Finishing aviation mechanics school, Jon read that an Agape Flights plane was stuck in Bombardopolis after a rough landing. The parts arrived about when his FAA license did, so he went with a bag of food and his tool bag and spent three weeks swapping turboprop engines and propellers and repairing sheet metal, then watched the plane fly home to Florida.

Five weeks in the Alaskan bush

After a year at a jet repair station, the family stepped into full-time ministry with five weeks at Kako Retreat Center in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, reachable only by small plane. It was a test of how the kids would do in a missional setting. They did great.

    Breaking the runway rock

HFAM needed to extend the Bombardopolis runway for larger aircraft, but a limestone hill stood in the way. Jon flew in on an MFI DC-3 and a Cessna 207, proved out Dexpan demolition grout, rode out Hurricane Melissa, and stayed an extra week readying planes for relief flights to Jamaica.

    A winter with Agape Flights

The family lived in a parsonage donated by First Baptist Church of Venice while Jon maintained Agape’s aircraft. They walked with the ministry through the approval of a facility expansion, and through the loss of two pilots and a plane on a relief run in southern Haiti in February 2026.

    Scouting the house

Thanks to an after-hours birth certificate and a single open passport appointment, Jon, Ashley and Gideon flew to Bombardopolis to see their future home and meet HFAM’s Canadian team. Jon repaired oxygen concentrators, rescued a 5-ton army truck and serviced the Cessna 207s.

    Moving to Bombardopolis

Boxes are shipped through Agape, much of the household has been given away, and the house in Bombardopolis is waiting. When the 50 for 50 campaign is met, the crew moves and gets to work.

That’s the new monthly support we need before we can move. Fifty families giving $50 a month would cover it.
